Outdoor Classroom
Coordinator: RSES
School now oversees this enrichment program
November 2010 Update
On the November
6th work day, parents, students and staff worked
together to haul away bad soil, lay down weed
barrier and spread new soil. Now, the much anticipated
outdoor classroom is open for use by our students
and faculty.
In addition, we are looking for those who would
like to make a permanent mark on the Outdoor Classroom
by purchasing
bricks. Space is limited, and the bricks will
be sold on a first come, first serve basis.
March 2010 Update
Bids for the first phase of the Outdoor Classroom
project were submitted, and the low bid of $18,500
was approved by the School Board in February.
The first phase of the project included putting
in the concrete sidewalks along with the engraved
bricks purchased from PTA to help fund this project.
The bricks are laid around the cistern. Two more
phases are scheduled to follow. Those phases will
require more direct involvement from PTA volunteers.
General Overview
The Outdoor Classroom at RSE will provide students
with an educational opportunity to observe and
interact with nature. An outdoor classroom,
sometimes referred to as a schoolyard habitat
or community restoration project, is a designated
area allocated for the development of wildlife
and natural resource conservation, where students
and the community can learn about and appreciate
our environment through hands-on experience. Although
most of what is learned in an outdoor classroom
relates to the environment, this habitat will
show how science, math, literature, history, art,
and music are influenced by nature and our natural
resources.
How can I help?
Please join us in enhancing learning opportunities
in our community by helping develop this outdoor
classroom. Your donation will help us realize
our goal. Remember, your donation is tax-deductible.
Financial
Donations
Families or organizations may purchase
a brick to help fund the Outdoor Classroom
in honor of a family, a child, a teacher, a staff
member or a business.
Material and Labor Donations
A few of the services that we will need are irrigation
supplies and services, stone and plants. More
services may be needed as the project progresses.
